Hello...

I didn't get a chance to blog this morning, the day just got away from me.
Then came gymnastics and girl scouts.
I didn't really get a chance to sit down much,
but I did see the news.

And now that I have time to sit down to blog, I don't really feel like talking about diy projects or laundry.

I feel like letting my kids stay up just a little past bedtime... because I know they are here with me.
Trying to shield them from the news coverage, because they are terrified of storms and tornadoes.
Praying with them because they are scared.
Listening to little voices ask God to keep them safe and help them not to be scared.
Grateful to tuck them in bed, and give into relentless requests for just one more kiss and hug.
Because I know some moms aren't that lucky tonight.

Today, this Monday, I am saying hello to Moore, OK
No, today, I'm not saying, I'm doing.
I am praying.
I am grieving.
I am rejoicing.
I am thankful that my family and friends in the area are safe.
I am thankful that my little family is home, safe in their beds.

I don't know what to do to help everyone who is hurting tonight.
What I do know how to do is pray.
So that's what I'm doing today.

TGIF

I've been quiet for a few days
No reason, really
Just quiet

Do you ever feel that way?
Like you just need to unplug
Take a break from technology

Or maybe like you just don't have anything to say
As if words escape you
And you can't put together an intelligent sentence

I think it's good to take some time off
Focus on life
Not thinking about "I need to blog"

Because, really...
I don't need to blog
I need to invest in my family

But I enjoy blogging
And when I take some time off
I can come back with a refreshed mind and heart

So, here's a look at our past couple of weeks
What our real days look like
through my instagram pics

Big Sis made a language arts bingo game for us to enjoy {it was homework}
Angel hair pasta with pancetta and spinach
Do you have a YAY banner? If you don't, you should... go here and here
Breakfast - egg, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and homemade whole wheat tortilla

Bike riding, snack eating, book reading
Big and Lil
Our dog sleeps like a plastic pony that got knocked over
Running. blech.

Baguette, goat cheese, apple slices, and a little black pepper. Yum!
Silly faces. Embrace the Camera!
My fly swatter is named Charlotte
I took a furniture refinishing class. If you are local (dallas area), you need to go here and check it out!

Being honest
Lil Sis got a snowcone machine. Not too bad!
Board dinner. Easy. Yummy.
Our dog is human

Lil Sis's class for mother's day. Evidently 4th graders are too cool...
We attempted the pool. Girls were cold. I was just fine - until I started reading my book. Broken and ugly tears.
No heat curls for the win.
My favorite nail polish from a sweet bloggy friend Jill. She has an amazing heart.

So there's a glimpse into our past weeks.
I am off to finish {haha, never!} laundry.
But tomorrow I get to cash in my Mother's Day gift and go meet Nathan Fillion!
      {eeeeeeek!}
I'm excited!
I hear I might get to meet MacGyver and Captain Kirk too...

What are your plans this weekend?

Hello Monday {5/13/13}

Hello Monday

I had a wonderful Mother's Day with my hubby and kiddos
Hubs and Lil got us donuts, I took a nap, we had a long lazy lunch, and went to see The Croods
I am blessed
Great day

Allergies have been kicking my butt
I thought I had everything under control in Virginia
Then we moved to Texas, and it all went crazy
I can't find a good regime that actually lets me breathe through my nose
Breathing is good
I miss breathing

I just turned on the TV
Marly & Me is what was playing
its at the end
the sad part
really?
it is too early for this crying junk
and on a Monday!
not cool, TV people, not cool

I'm saying hello to a bunch of little things that just need to get done this week
       finally finishing the dining room table
       weeding and mulching the front flower bed
       getting a trellis for my rose bush
       meal planning {we discovered our local farmer's market this weekend - yum!}
       washing clothes, folding, repeat
       figuring out how to get neon pink craft paint out of my carpet {naughty Charlotte!}

Guess I should go get on those things!
Have a great Monday

What are you saying hello to today?

Embracing Curls

I have been noticing this "no-heat" curl hair styling method all over pinterest, so I thought I would give it a try. I am not the best hair fixer on the planet, and that is probably an understatement. But this method is basically just wrapping wet/damp hair around one of those stretchy headbands that you are wearing. Doesn't sound too hard.

Well, the right side of my hair turned out exactly like I imagined.
The left side looked like a sad little cat stuck its tail in a light socket.

I wet the right side down, and then pulled that side back with some bobby pins. It's all good.

This was the good side :)

Can someone please tell me how you are supposed to actually do this method and not have bi-polar hair?!? I started like the picture shows, wrapping each side and working my way toward the back... then I ended up with essentially a pony tail of hair in the back that I couldn't figure out how to wrap it all around there. So I took it out and started over - starting on the right side and just working my way all the way around to the left side. The left side ended up wrapped a lot tighter since I didn't want it wrapped across my face. So, I ended up with great waves on the right side, and tight crazy kinky fuzzy hair on the left side. I can't figure it out, and it can't be that hard people!! Will someone just come show me how to do it?!?

Anywho... I have super fine hair. Lots of it, but it is stick straight and super fine. These waves have stayed in all day yesterday and all day today. AND, I have brushed my hair no less than 572 times in the past two days. I cannot believe how well this worked {minus the crazy left side}.

So, all of you try this method out, and then please, for all of the chocolate in the world, come back here and tell me how to do it correctly!

Have a great Thursday!

Rock Star

For anyone worried about Big Sis not having a bed, today I am redeeming myself.

I also repainted Lil Sis's nightstand and headboard.

And I'm making snow cones.
Pretty sure I'm a rock star

{but I still haven't done dishes, I'm still in my pj's, and my dog ate: sanding block, piece of cardboard, and baker's twine}
